Dussehra is widely observed in India by many people of the Hindu faith with special prayer gatherings and offerings of food to the gods, either at home or in temples across India. Additionally, outdoor public gatherings and grand parades featuring effigies of Ravana are organized. The effigies are set on fire in bonfires during the evening. Dussehra marks the conclusion of the Navaratri festival.
In certain regions of India, there are numerous local celebrations that can extend for as long as 10 days starting from Navratri.
